It’s a great week to be Canadian!

Seriously, never in foodie history have we been more proud to be displaying the beautiful maple leaf on our baking mixes.

If you’ve missed the news, after 6 long years of consideration, the US food regulators have finally set a standard for all foods labelled ‘gluten-free’.

Any product labelled gluten-free must contain less than 20 parts per million of gluten. Low enough that ‘most people’ with Celiac Disease won’t get sick.

This conversation started during the Bush administration so it is with a big sigh of relief that the some 3 million US citizens with Celiac Disease must welcome this latest ruling.

But what does this mean for the United States neighbours?

Absolutely nothing!

Here in Canada, we’ve been subject to a concise definition of what constitutes gluten-free since February 2011 with the new regulations in force since August last year.

Go Canada!

So what do you need to do about the regulations?

If you’re Canadian, the best thing you can do is go about business as normal.

Remain vigilant. Check your labels.

Eat fresh fruit and vegetables in season and enjoy your favourite home-baked treats, safe in the knowledge that we’ve got your back.

And remember, there’s still time for you to play in The Great Comensoli Gluten Free Treasure Hunt and win all eight of our baking mixes for free.
